What was it like to be a teenage Rebecca Hart? Answers inside!
Remember … in band camp?
Remember when we didn’t know anyone in band camp since we didn’t play instruments, but we hung out in Tina Rowledge’s closet and conjured band names and brainstormed the way the name would look on the front of the drum set.

Nothing’s better than being on the _____ team.
Nothing’s better than being on the volleyball team. It wasn’t until my junior year of HS and I tried out for varsity volleyball that I developed any sort of confidence in myself or my abilities. I’d never played before in my life, but somehow mustered the courage to humiliate myself at the tryouts.
Being on the team helped me find out who I was and what mettle I really had.
Go _____________!
Blue Devils! (blue and white) I went to Columbia High School in East Greenbush, NY and always loved that the mascot was a blue devil because at the time, I wanted to attend college in NC and it was the same as the Duke mascot.
My other car was a __________________
I wanted the candy apple red 87 Honda Accord with the sunroof, but I got the beige 76 Chevy Monza with the brown door.
Need I say more?
There was a hot teacher, his name was_________________.
Oh boy… in 7th grade I had a massive crush on the science teacher, Mr Olf. I would hang out in his study hall and pretend to be interested in his specimins and perserved parts when I really just wanted to be around him as much as I could. (Man, I hope he doesn’t read this…)
One night … I snuck out and you’ll never believe what happened…
I thought all was well till I snuck back in. My bedroom was in the attic, so I snuck in the back door, through the kitchen into the dining room, where the stairs to the attic where. As soon as my feet hit the dining room carpet, the living room light flicked on in front of me and my parents were both sitting on the couch staring me down.
Not a fun night for Becca. 🙁
Now, before we get to the last question, let’s look at Rebecca’s book …
Elysandra Winters has always yearned for a life of adventure on the rolling seas and is willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill her dream. When her Privateer father continually refuses to allow his only daughter to sail, Ellie defies him, disguises herself as a boy, and goes in search of a captain who will give her a chance to prove her worth.
Thanks to the cursed selkie blood coursing through his veins, Daniel O’Rourke needs the sea to survive. After giving up on his humanity and spending three years in seal form, he decides to give his human side another chance. Daniel goes in search of a job and a sense of normalcy, earning himself a position aboard Captain Winter’s ship, The Siren’s Call. However, his new captain’s first assignment has nothing at all to do with sailing, and everything to do with his headstrong young daughter.
Years later, when the leader of a band of bloodthirsty pirates murders Captain Winters, Daniel and Elysandra’s lives come crashing back together with the force of a hurricane. Both experts in deception, they must find a way to trust each other if they are to have any hope of hunting down the captain’s killer.
Favorite one-line review about the book
I tasted the salt in the air, felt the wind on my face, and experienced every jitter and bite of anger Ellie & Daniel did.
Favorite 6 sentences from the book
“Meet me on The Siren’s Call in the morning. With or without Daniel, we need to get that new mast installed. If he doesn’t return soon, we’ll have to consider the possibility of going after Jashir without him.”
“Wouldn’t you have to steal his ship to do that?” Nelson asked.
Ellie drew her shoulders up in a shrug. “Once a pirate, always a pirate.”

But before you go, one last question …
If I could do it all again …
Not break up with the swedish exchange student because he couldn’t afford to take me to the Snow Ball. I missed a lot of time with a guy I think about to this day.
Congratulations, Rebecca! Good luck with Call of the Sea!
