If you saw it, would you read it? Farsighted by Emlyn Chand #ReadOrNot

About the front:
So the first time I saw this book’s cover, I kinda cringed. I actually didn’t buy it a few times because … well … yes. It just didn’t call to me. But then about a week ago, a friend said the book was available for free download, so I said, ‘what the hey’ and grabbed it. But at the same time, I noticed the rockin’ new cover and absolutely had to look twice. The red and greens are very compelling. They are strong colors that really pop on screen. The plaid gives him a bit of a redneck feel, I have to say, but hey, I live in the south, so I see things a little differently than others. The breaking glass behind him and the shades really catch me, too. Makes me wonder why he’s standing there like he is. The big, bold words really show off the title and the boy is actually quite cute.

At this point, I’m thinking this story is a fantasy with some paranormal elements.

Now let’s look at what the back says:

Alex Kosmitoras’s life has never been easy. The only other student who will talk to him is the school bully, his parents are dead broke and insanely overprotective, and to complicate matters even more, he’s blind. Just when he thinks he’ll never have a shot at a normal life, an enticing new girl comes to their small Midwest town all the way from India. Simmi is smart, nice, and actually wants to be friends with Alex. Plus she smells like an Almond Joy bar. Sophomore year might not be so bad after all.

Unfortunately, Alex is in store for another new arrival—an unexpected and often embarrassing ability to “see” the future. Try as he may, Alex is unable to ignore his visions, especially when they suggest Simmi is in mortal danger. With the help of the mysterious psychic next door and friends who come bearing gifts of their own, Alex embarks on a journey to change his future and save the woman of his dreams.

Does it match? Front to Back without the in between?
So Alex is what? 16? And Simmi is the woman of his dreams? Okay, that kinda kills it for me because ‘woman of his dreams’ is a very ‘old’ comment. But a paranormal YA romance is a very hot and trendy story type. Why though, do we have to cliche-it up? Putting that aside, and getting back to the combination of blurb and cover instead of my own story opinions, the blurb does fit the cover, in the action, adventure, fantasy way. But I NEVER would have pegged it for a romance. The blurb though, is 50% romance.

I love the voice in the opening paragraph and I really hope the book is similar. Since I do have a copy, I’m now excited to read it.

Maybe while watching t.v. This one has that “read anywhere” kinda feel to me.
