If you saw it, would you read it? Solstice by P.J. Hoover #ReadOrNot
About the front:
Sci-fi anyone? Oddly enough, the font of the title caught my attention on this one. Weirdly, this doesn’t seem to be the only cover for this book but this is definitely the one that keeps my attention. So, that said, let me tell you why. The colors are stunning. The blending of red to gold and gold to green. I see acuity and desert, rocks and grass. It’s a whole visual, blend. Now, the thing wrapping around her leg, the three spots of life and the girl standing there facing the city are all making me want to zoom in and see the detail. And that makes me want to know what’s inside, too! So, let’s carry on!
Now let’s look at what the back says:
Piper’s world is dying.
Each day brings hotter temperatures and heat bubbles that threaten to destroy the earth. Amid this global heating crisis, Piper lives under the oppressive rule of her mother, who suffocates her even more than the weather does. Everything changes on her eighteenth birthday, when her mother is called away on a mysterious errand and Piper seizes her first opportunity for freedom.
Piper discovers a universe she never knew existed—a sphere of gods and monsters—and realizes that her world is not the only one in crisis. While gods battle for control of the Underworld, Piper’s life spirals out of control as she struggles to find the answer to the secret that has been kept from her since birth.
An imaginative melding of mythology and dystopia, Solstice is the first YA novel by talented newcomer P. J. Hoover.
Does it match? Front to Back without the in between?
Piper’s world is dying.
Oooh. The back imagery fits.
Each day brings hotter temperatures and heat bubbles that threaten to destroy the earth.
Yes! The red and the ‘bubbly’ look. Now I get it! Awesome!
Amid this global heating crisis, Piper lives under the oppressive rule of her mother, who suffocates her even more than the weather does.
Well, then I’d want to get outta there, too!
Everything changes on her eighteenth birthday, when her mother is called away on a mysterious errand and Piper seizes her first opportunity for freedom.
Yeah! She can go!
Piper discovers a universe she never knew existed—a sphere of gods and monsters—and realizes that her world is not the only one in crisis.
Oh, so paranormal? Not sci-fi? Or Sci-fi AND paranormal. I like this mix!
While gods battle for control of the Underworld, Piper’s life spirals out of control as she struggles to find the answer to the secret that has been kept from her since birth.
And gods, too! And the underworld! So is the scene the underworld or the top world?
An imaginative melding of mythology and dystopia, Solstice is the first YA novel by talented newcomer P. J. Hoover.
Dang it! WHY do marketers insist on adding opinion to a blurb? C’mon people! Just tell us about the story and let US decide!
Will I read it?
I’m absolutely adding this one. Definitely.
